1st ISAK Level 1 Anthropometry Accreditation Course

Kinanthropometry is the academic discipline that involves the use of anthropometric measurements in relation to other scientific parameters and/or thematic areas, such as human movement, physiology, or health sciences. Obtaining and using valid measurements require adherence to measurement principles and protocols applied both nationally and internationally.

The ISAK Level 1 Anthropometry Accreditation Course provides access to certification from the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK), which is required in various professional fields for nutritionists and other health and exercise professionals. This certification enhances measurement execution procedures and standardization, granting participants the Restricted Profile Anthropometrist – Level 1 diploma.

This course includes the issuance of an international certificate to all participants who successfully complete it.

  • Understand the history and evolution of anthropometry and kinanthropometry.
  • Become familiar with ISAK and its certification model.
  • Correctly identify all anatomical landmarks and measurement sites.
  • Use all ISAK Level 1 equipment.
  • Inspect all anthropometric materials required for the ISAK Level 1 course.
  • Understand the technical error of measurement (TEM) and the basic statistics used for its calculation.
  • Understand what somatotype is and how to calculate, plot, and analyze somatotypes.
  • Identify different types of body tissues and various methods for estimating them.
  • Understand all ethical considerations involved in the process of obtaining anthropometric measurements.
  • Use the ISAK Metry platform.

Certification and Evaluation

Final Evaluation: The course includes a practical evaluation where students will need to perform 10 measurements, two or three times, according to their TEM, on each of the 3 anthropometric models assigned to them. Students will have 20 minutes to perform the measurements on each anthropometric model and will evaluate their 3 anthropometric models consecutively, without breaks in between.

Students will be assessed on their TEM (intra-TEM) and compared to their TEM relative to the criterion measurements, which will be obtained by a Level 3 anthropometrist (inter-TEM).

Regarding the final grading: For each measurement within the admissible TEM, students will earn 1 point. Since there are 10 measurements, the maximum grade will be 20 points (10 points for intra-TEM and 10 points for inter-TEM). A student will pass if they achieve a score of ≥ 16 points.

The ISAK certificate will only be issued after the submission of the 20 post-course anthropometric profiles and their approval by the course coordination.
