Biobanks

Biobanks are fundamental infrastructures in health research. Although they are well established in other European countries, in Portugal there have been some obstacles to their full implementation, despite widespread recognition of their importance for research. This course therefore aims, in an innovative way, to promote comprehensive knowledge about these infrastructures, covering their operation in Portugal as well as more specific aspects such as ethical issues, sample quality, and data security.

The course includes a practical component in the form of a workshop on the fourth day, allowing participants to apply the knowledge acquired. It also includes a session open to the community, with the aim of increasing the visibility of biobanks in health research within the CAML community, particularly among healthcare professionals. The participation of suppliers of biobank materials, together with product demonstrations, completes the course offering, ensuring that professionals involved in biobanks are also kept up to date with new materials and technologies available.
