More And Better
Mentoring Project
The Mentoring Project is a partnership between the Department of Pedagogy and Medical Education (DPEM) of the Students’ Association of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (AEFML) and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL). Its main aim is to integrate new FMUL students into the academic and social environment.
As a result of the partnership between AEFML and FMUL, this 4th edition had several new features:
- The Mentor-Mentee distribution was made through a “Mentoring App” Matching App, whose pairing criteria are based on the interests of both as well as on the characteristics that the Mentee looks for in his/her Mentor.
- The existence of a Mentoring Assistance place where it is possible to solve in person problems or doubts of the students regarding any subject within the scope of the project during the academic year.
- New activities, such as Mentors' Day and the Bibliographic Research Workshop.
Are you curious about the activities carried out by the Mentoring Programme in recent weeks?
From Enrolment Week to Mentoring Day, there were plenty of fun activities designed to integrate newcomers into their new home! Go through the images below to check it out.
Enrolment Week (11-15 sept)
Throughout the week, the Mentoring Stand marked its presence in the Egas Moniz Building, enrolling in the project all the new students interested in it. At the moment we have 316 mentors and 320 mentees, which means a total of 636 signed up for this project! In addition, there were visits to the Faculty conducted by the Mentors who so readily made themselves available to help!
Mentors’ Day (15 sept)
This day was a novelty of the 4th Edition of our project and the main objective was to foster group dynamics and relationships among mentors! Thus, with the support of the University Stadium, we had a Team Building session given by Dr Graça Piçarra, in addition to other fun games.
Lecture "How to study medicine in the first year?" (18 Sept)
For the first time, the Mentoring Project was present at the Introduction Week and gave a brief lecture on "How to study Medicine in the 1st year?” The focus of this presentation was to divulge the Survival Kit, which is already available online at AEFML website that every student can use.
Mentoring Day– Treasure Hunt (19 Set)
As usual, at the Mentoring Day, it's released one activity which aim is to establish the first contact between Mentor/Mentee. This year, it had a slightly different format, and was a Treasure Hunt (Peddy Paper) in Lisbon, more concretely a walk in the Baixa-Chiado and Príncipe Real areas.
Throughout the activity, each team had lots of fun challenges to overcome in the shortest possible time. All teams were up to it and the competition was tight!
With 499 participants, divided by 24 teams, team 12 was the winner!
Soft Skills Workshops (13 Nov)
These workshops were given by trainers José Rodrigues, Rafael Inácio, Teresa Valido, Beatriz Oliveira, Francisco Baptista, and Sofia Pereira on the topics Communication and Time and Stress Management. Once again, it was very well received by Mentors and Mentees, and we filled all the available positions, a total of 80 participants!
Workshop "Bibliographic Research Made Simple" (22 Nov)
This Workshop was facilitated by Dr Susana Henriques from the Center for Library and Information and it demonstrated that it is not an Odyssey to use bibliographic resources.
And more activities will come!
