PhD in Biophysics - Bioengineering (Applied Biological Sciences), Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Brussels, Belgium, having completed his PhD at Swich Lab, Flemish Institute for Biotechnology (VIB), VUB, Brussels, Belgium (now relocated to VIB, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven), Belgium, together with the Serrano Lab, European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany. The PhD was supported by the Boeheringher Ingelheim Fonds Foundation (BIF), Germany and later, partially, by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), Portugal.
I did post-doc at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in collaboration with the Institute of Molecular Medicine (iMM), Lisbon School of Medicine, Lisbon, Portugal, through a Scholarship from the European Union, Marie Curie International Outgoing Fellowship (MC-IOF), and in part, by the FCT foundation, Portugal.
I also received support, in the form of the Frontiers in Life Sciences Research 2010 award, from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (FCG), Portugal.
Developing research activities through a contract financed by FCT (FCT Researcher, followed by EEC-IND contract), since 2014.
Co-founder in 2017 of the academic and technological-based startup DART Diagnostics (ABDART Diagnostics, LDA), which has been developing applied research with national and European, private and public funding.
Inventor in 3 distinct patent families, and author of several scientific papers, in the area of protein structure, namely viral, as well as studies of amyloidogenic peptides and interaction with lipids, among other activities.
Invited Assistant Professor of Biochemistry (at 0%, pro-bono) at Lisbon School of Medicine since 2019.
