"Sintra Cresce Saudável" project with the scientific seal of the Laboratory for Nutrition of the Faculty of Medicine
On April 4, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, represented by Professor Catarina Sousa Guerreiro, signed a collaboration agreement with the Sintra City Council with regard to the "Sintra Cresce Saudável" project.
Aimed at promoting healthy living practices based on a balanced diet in schools, the "Sintra Cresce Saudável" project focuses on children in the 1st cycle of basic education and involves a total of eight educational institutions.
The goal of this joint collaboration between four different Institutions is to share knowledge and research that will allow improving the food and nutritional health of the school community.
As the technical-scientific coordinator of the project, the Laboratory for Nutrition of the Faculty of Medicine takes on a major role and responsibility.
"The FMUL is proud of this partnership and contributes with its scientific know-how to a very relevant project in the area of Public Health. We all acknowledge that a proper diet is a decisive factor for health, crucial for the sustainability of the National Health Service, and this intervention may have the ability to change behaviours, aiming at short- and long-term health gains, based on the school-family-local authorities triad, fostered by the academic community. So, signing this agreement symbolises, above all, our taking responsibility and actively participating in the response to the global challenges we are currently facing, namely the urgency of promoting food skills among the school community. The Laboratory for Nutrition of the FMUL takes the lead in the technical-scientific coordination of the project, being responsible for its assessment, with scientific robustness, a differentiating aspect that fosters the implementation and dissemination of the project". – Catarina Sousa Guerreiro, Coordinator of the Degree in Nutrition Sciences of the FMUL
