FMUL celebrates another Research Day
size="10"
The 13th of December marked another Research Day at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL), organized by the Office for the Support of Scientific and Technological Research and Innovation (GAPIC), in partnership with the Students’ Association of the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon (AEFML).
This was the day when students of the 20th “Education through Science Programme” | CHLN/FMUL scholarships and the winners of the GAPIC David-Ferreira Prize presented their research work and certainly awakened the restless spirit of other students to conduct scientific research.
GAPIC has always been the promoter of this day. Created on 11 July 1989 by Professor José David-Ferreira, GAPIC's main purpose has been to promote the practice of scientific research among students, fostering the scientific culture of future physicians.
Twenty-eight years later, GAPIC continues to be the driver in the access to the research units of the Lisbon Academic Medical Centre (CAML), thus contributing to the fuller professional development of future physicians, enabling them to better question the advances of medicine, always in search of new answers and trying to incorporate new knowledge into clinical practice in a way that is beneficial to their patients.
This year the debate had the presence of Dr Alexandra Santos (MRC Clinical Research Fellow at the Department of Paediatric Allergy, King's College London), who participated in the Research Paths session with the presentation "Choosing to be a Clinician Scientist to improve our understanding of food allergy"; and Frederico Muñoz (Chief Architect of IBM Portugal) in the session Research Tools, with the theme "IBM Watson: Big Data, Cognitive Computing and Personalized Medicine".
Throughout the day, approximately 90 people, including students, researchers, lecturers and other guests attended poster sessions and presentations, among other initiatives.
Research Day has become a formula of success that continues to inspire Faculty students, also arousing the interest of those who come from outside.
Do not miss the January edition, in which the Newsletter team will disclose the course of this day and talk to the people involved, who are the face of this project.
