On 3 October the new Kaleidoscope opened doors as an Academic Centre for the 22,000 students of the University of Lisbon and for all university students in the capital. It is innovative, providing study rooms open 24 hours and accessible to all those who wish to use this space by means of their student card.
The two-floor building offers an extensive panoramic area of 140 square meters with 175 places to support students’ activities on the top floor, in addition to the study area with Wi-Fi. It also has an auditorium with about 70 seats.
Downstairs there is an exhibition gallery where the evolution of the work can be seen in the photographic panels.
The academic centre project resulted from a protocol between the Lisbon Municipality, the University of Lisbon and McDonald’s. The US chain has 23% of the total space for a restaurant with the counterpart of ensuring much of the funding for the rehabilitation of the Kaleidoscope. The total investment was 2.5 million euros.
