2nd Session II of the Graduate Students’ Integration Committee
2nd session organized by the Graduate Students’ Integration Committee (CIAL), for all students who entered the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon by means of the "Special Contest for Accessing Medical School for Bachelor Degree Holders" in the academic year 2016/2017.
On 21 September 2016, the second session organized by the Graduate Students’ Integration Committee (CIAL) was held at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL) for the 45 students who entered the FMUL through the "Special Contest for Accessing Medical School for Bachelor Degree Holders" in the school year 2016/2017. This session was attended by student Rafael Inácio, President of the Students’ Association of the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon (AEFML), and members of CIAL. This initiative enjoyed strong support by the graduate students who entered the FMUL through this route, which reinforces the relevance of this event.
The main objective of CIAL is to facilitate the integration of the above students, and for this purpose it created communication platforms that ensure permanent contact with the students, and, together with AEFML, it encouraged their integration in the Mentoring tutorial programme.
This project was developed by students who entered the FMUL through the same access system, and received the support of Professor Mamede de Carvalho, Deputy Director of FMUL.
It should be noted that currently there is no project in any Faculty of Medicine in Portugal similar to that of CIAL, even though virtually all faculties receive graduate students annually. This makes the CIAL innovative and unique in the paradigm of special contests for graduates.
The CIAL has five members: four students of FMUL, Cláudio Maroco (year 6), Sílvia de Lourenço (year 6), Ana Chaves (year 3) and Carolina Ribau (year3), and one FMUL employee, Hugo Caldeira, who is responsible for administrative support and acts as the link between the students and the Faculty.
Comment of Professor Mamede de Carvalho about the creation of the CIAL in 2015:
I consider the initiative to receive, inform and integrate graduate students in the Integrated Master Degree in Medicine OF the UL to be of great relevance for its huge practical effect. This group is distinct from most in terms of life experience, age and even, perhaps, some goals. Recognizing that diversity and the ability to maximize its advantages is the secret to success, which this initiative was able to foresee. It is paramount to keep this project going and adjust the necessary details.
