Moments
Mother
Maternity is the high point in the life of a woman!
Despite my four wonderful children, I do not know whether I will be able to explain the meaning of “Mother”. I am sure I will take a lifetime to discover it …
The funny thing is that when I think of the word “Mother” I remember my own. A beautiful woman, full of life and energy, strong and a good companion, always present, who taught me the meaning of maternity. I see my mother’s words so often in the things I say to my children …
For me the main thing is love. An unconditional love that we feel for tiny beings, a disinterested and very intense love that it is impossible to explain. As I have just said, I have four children:
- Alice, who is eight – beautiful, emotional and sensitive;
- Nadine, who is five – a whirlwind of emotions, strong and very devoted;
- Amélia, who is three – a princess, very delicate and attentive;
- Franclim, who is two – a little terrorist, very tender and determined.
Each one is special, each one is a blessing. When I look at them I think about the enormous responsibility I have to make them grow up happy and healthy. My greatest desire is that when they are mothers and fathers they might say, like me: “I want to be like my mother!”
I don’t know how to give advice and I often think that I could do better. Even so, an exercise I enjoy doing is often to think like a daughter. And so I can say that being a mother is:
- Finding a shoe box to keep silkworms in;
- Learning to play the violin, at 33, in order to teach it;
- Hearing, first thing in the morning: “You look so lovely, mummy. Like a lady!”;
- Hearing someone shout “mummy” and thinking everything is perfect;
- waking up several times during the night just to be sure they are all asleep;
- Getting sick with viruses that only affect children!
- Playing again;
- Running in the rain to get to the animated movie show on time;
- Seeing our reflection in our children;
- Being very afraid;
- Not fearing anything;
- Crying, often out of joy.
In short, it means being sure that our children grow up and at the end they aren’t ours … we can only do our best ach day and have a lot of faith.
If I think about the only really important thing I have done in this short path through life, I have no doubts: it was being a mother! The only important dream I have fulfilled; the only truly successful project!
