Gauging Research Day
GAPIC
gapicmail@fm.ul.pt
When gauging the opinion of participants about Research Day by means of a survey, it appears that it was, once again, a successful event, as all participants unanimously indicated that this day should continue to be promoted (95,8%).
This second edition attracted 218 registrations, and of these 69.3% actually attended the event. The vast majority of the 151 participants were from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (94%), mostly students of the Integrated Master Degree in Medicine (93.4%) in year 3 (24.8%) and year 4 (24.8%).

Seventy two participants (response rate 48%) responded to the survey questionnaire assessing the event. The majority (83.3%) was informed of Research Day by the email sent to disseminate the event. The poster that was put up was also an important form of communication (43.1%).
The chief motivation for participating in the event was an interest in scientific research (38.9%) and the fact that a few were the authors of posters presented (25%).
It is significant that about half of the participants had never participated in research projects (58.3%), whereas the other half participates occasionally (26.4%) or even often (15.3%) in projects.
Overall, participants were satisfied with the programme, most notably the session on Research Opportunities for Students organized by the Students’ Association of the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon (AEFML) (46.9% very satisfied; 44.9% satisfied), and the visits to the research units (45.5% very satisfied; 34.1% satisfied).
Participants were also satisfied with the organization and logistics, namely with the dissemination (52.8% very satisfied; 43.1% satisfied), the secretariat (41.7% very satisfied; 54.2% satisfied) and the comfort of the rooms and other areas (40.3% very satisfied; 55.6% satisfied).
A strong point that needs to be highlighted is the fact that this initiative fosters scientific research conducted by students (30.3%). The failure to comply with the schedule throughout the day was considered a negative point (52.2%).
