Portuguese scientists win research grants worth millions of euros.
Maria Mota, researcher at the IMM, is one of the winners of a grant worth 1.5 million Euros.
Maria Mota, a researcher at the Institute of Molecular Medicine of the University of Lisbon, is the best-known face of national research, committed to finding new answers against malaria: once more, the ideas to fool the Plasmodium parasite merit the grant from CEI. At the age of 40, the researcher will receive € 1.5 million to develop a project to study how parasites involved in many tropical diseases are able to adapt to the nutritional status of their hosts and re-programme their metabolism. Success may lead to new therapy targets.
