Seven applications were submitted to the contest for the award of Research Grants for Young Doctors (2020), which represented an increase of 75% compared to the previous year.
After being evaluated by a panel made up of Professors Domingos Henrique, Leonor Parreira, Marília Cravo and Rui Victorino, the following projects were selected:
17th AstraZeneca Foundation/FMUL Research Grant - “Retrobulbar Optic Nerve Sheath - Anatomy, Imaging and Clinical Applications”, by David Alves Berhanu, to be carried out at the FMUL Anatomy Institute and the HSM-CHULN Neurological Imaging Service;
2nd iMM João Lobo Antunes/FMUL Research Grant - “Is ultrasound a good surrogate marker for remission in RA? - validation of Contrast-enhanced Doppler ultrasound as a useful tool to detect minimal inflammation in RA patients in remission”, by Manuel Silvério António, to be conducted at the FMUL Rheumatology University Clinic and at the Service of Rheumatology and Bone Metabolic Diseases of HSM-CHULN
The Research Grants for Young Doctors were created with the aim of supporting physicians at an early stage in their careers and fostering greater involvement in research activities in the future.
