It is with deep regret that we inform the entire academic community of the passing of Professor Jacinto Monteiro, Full Professor of Orthopaedics at FMUL.
Professor Jacinto Monteiro graduated in Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon and had a brilliant career in his area of specialization, Orthopaedics, having reached all top positions, both in academic terms, as Full Professor at the Orthopaedics University Clinic, and in hospital terms, as Director of the Orthopaedics Service of the HSM/CHULN.
He performed numerous important functions throughout his life, including that of Professor of Biomaterials Science at the IST (Biomedical Engineering), President of the Portuguese Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, President of the SPODOM (Portuguese Society of Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Diseases), Chairman of the Shoulder and Elbow Committee of the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SICOT), an area where he became a reference at national and international level, and a prominent member of the National Legal Medical Council, among many other distinctions.
We will always remember the calm and wise way he has always participated in the life of our School and as a member of some of its governing bodies. His commitment and sense of institutional duty left a mark on all those who had the privilege of living and working with the Professor and his example will certainly last for generations to come.
The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon presents its condolences to the whole family and friends of Professor Jacinto Monteiro.
We remember here his last lesson, in a report made by himself on video and in a news revised with the Professor after his class.
