In December, two professors from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon were invited to participate in the 90 Seconds of Antena 1 science programme.
Professor Miguel Castanho lectures Biochemistry at FMUL and is a researcher at the iMM and has been studying the Zika virus infection and the development of molecules capable of fighting it in the brain itself. With this research, he hopes to be able to develop a drug that acts as a blood-brain barrier that blocks the infection of the unborn baby's brain.

Also, Professor João Lacerda, Hematologist and a researcher at iMM, participates in the TREGeneration consortium with the aim of developing methods capable of reducing the impact of graft disease against the host. This is a very common condition after a bone marrow transplant, in which the graft itself rejects the patient and attacks his cells and organs.
