Blood vessel communication tools and how zebrafish can help find new drugs to treat spinal cord injuries
In this edition of iMM Corner, we find out about two more scientific articles:
The latest project by the research group led by Leonor Saúde, published this week in the Scientific Reports journal, a platform was developed that uses zebrafish to accelerate the discovery of new drugs to treat spinal cord injuries. This project is the proof-of-concept that, combined with drug repositioning strategies, it has the potential to accelerate the period from the discovery of new therapeutic targets to their clinical use.
A key element in generating a functional vascular system is the collective migration of endothelial cells that form the inner lining of blood vessels. The recent project done by the group led by Claudio Franco and recently published in the scientific journal eLife, illustrates a new molecular mechanism of blood vessel physical communication that is involved in regulating this collective migration.
