Fausto J. Pinto chosen as President-Elect of the World Heart Federation
Professor Fausto J. Pinto, Director of The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, Head of the Cardiology Department and the Heart and Vascular Department, both in the Santa Maria University Hospital (CHLN), is now adding to his resumé the position of President-Elect of the World Heart Federation.
This NGO, which is present in almost 100 countries, counts on the participation of 200 partners worldwide and is recognised by the World Health Organization as a very important pillar of the community in the field of cardiovascular health.
The WHF defends health justice, and especially in heart health regardless of nationality, race, religion, sex, education or age.
It intends to raise awareness of the lack of access to adequate treatments, for example, in the case of rheumatic cardiac disease, which causes hundreds of children to die every year.
Professor Fausto J. Pinto is facing this new challenge with a big sense of responsibility, aware of the fact that the WHF is "the global voice of the cardiovascular community", and also that national cardiology is going to attract the attention of the international community.
