Nunes Corrêa Verdades de Faria Awards | 2018
FMUL professors receive honourable mentions in the Nunes Corrêa Verdades de Faria Awards, promoted by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa.
This Award, created by the benefactor Enrique Mantero Bélard, aims at distinguishing personalities in the fields of assistance and care provided to unprotected senior citizens; medical progress applied to the elderly, and progress in the treatment of heart diseases.size="20"

Daniel Caldeira, Assistant Professor at the FMUL, received an honourable mention for "Progress in the Treatment of Heart Diseases," which distinguishes outstanding work developed in the areas of Cardiology and Clinical Pharmacology.
[su_quote cite="Daniel Caldeira, Assistant Professor, Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa"]It is the recognition of a scientific, clinical and pedagogical work developed in coordination with two areas: Cardiology and Clinical Pharmacology.
It is an Honourable Mention which highlights the benefits arising from the synergies between the Clinical, Academic and Research Institutions. One of the most visible aspects of the work are the publications in renowned international journals in both areas. In my opinion, the most relevant aspect is the improvement of the existing knowledge and its dissemination with a potential impact on the improvement of health care.Although the Honourable Mention is awarded individually, it is important to recognise the people involved in the structures that supported the process, in particular all the co-authors and colleagues with whom I've shared my work and dilemmas.
I would like to add a final word of thanks, for their guidance and confidence in this journey, to Professor Joaquim Ferreira and Professor João Costa, Ph.D (Clinical and Therapeutic Pharmacology Laboratory of the FMUL), Professor Hélder Pereira (Cardiology Service of the Garcia de Orta Hospital) and Professor Fausto Pinto, Ph.D (Director of the FMUL and of the Cardiology Service and Heart and Vessels Department of the CHLN). Mariana Alves, Guest Lecturer at the FMUL, was also distinguished in the area "Medical Progress Applied to the Elderly," for the work she developed in the Geriatrics University Unit.
[su_quote cite="Mariana Alves, Guest Lecturer , Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa"]This award recognised the work developed over the last few years, in collaboration with the Geriatrics University Unit of the Pulido Valente Hospital, where I've developed a number of research projects and which encouraged me to carry out an internship in geriatrics in Edinburgh (in 2015). When I completed the internship, I decided to develop my doctoral project in the field of geriatrics. I was very well received at the Clinical and Therapeutic Pharmacology Laboratory by Professor Joaquim Ferreira and I started to develop my PhD project on cardiovascular risk in Parkinson's Disease. The fact that I was awarded this prize, being the youngest of all the winners, was the recognition of the work I've developed, which is always comforting and motivating. These are the moments that strengthen our motivation to continue this journey dedicated to an area like Geriatrics, whose clinical, scientific and pedagogical components are constantly evolving. This award will allow me to pursue a postgraduate degree at the European Academy for Medicine of Ageing, which is one of the goals I've been wanting to achieve for a few years now.[/su_quote]
