The commemorative tour began with a visit to the Ducal Palace, a guided tour of about an hour that enchanted the participants who had the pleasure of discovering many curiosities about the last inhabitant of the palace, King D. Carlos, as well as to the largest kitchen in Europe in terms of the number of copper utensils, among other peculiarities of the day-to-day life of the illustrious figures who used to live in that national monument.
The lunch took place in a very pleasant venue, in the middle of a garden, with traditional "Migas" from Alentejo and the CPFMUL anniversary cake, which, by the way, was masterfully baked.
Then we headed to the Castle; its wall is still well preserved and the Hunting Museum was an astonishing surprise to everyone: Room after room of a never-ending collection of hunting trophies...a vision hardly advisable to the most sensitive audience, but still rather surprising!
After the visit to the Archaeology and Hunting museums accommodated in the Vila Viçosa Castle, we headed to the Marble museum, where our visit came to an end. In a small building next to an abandoned quarry, we learned about the formation of this beautiful and valuable rock, as well as about its extraction, processing and use. Here is a curiosity: the colour of marble depends on the quality of the soil where it is found; In Vila Viçosa it is pink, because the soil is rich in iron; It's the colour of rust.
