The affirmation of the University of Lisbon (ULisboa) as an institution of reference at national and international level also implies having the capacity to renew competitive research. In 2015, ULisboa launched a PhD Scholarship Programme. Recognizing the importance of student funding for the development of the economic and scientific systems, the programme was designed to create conditions for young researchers to realize their potential.

Between 2015 and 2016 ULisboa awarded 142 scholarships to doctoral students from different areas of knowledge. The scholarships can be renewed for a further 3 years.

In 2017, ULisboa opened another competition for the award of PhD scholarships distributed by different knowledge areas.

The competition is intended for new students enrolled or accepted in one of the doctoral studies cycles for the first time in the 2017/18 academic year, and applications must be submitted exclusively online.

Applications are open from 12 December 2017 to 9 January 2018 and are formalized online.
