After viral infections, mycoses are the most frequent infections in human beings and of major importance given the associated morbidity and mortality.
This work offers an update on the fundamental aspects of the agents and the clinical manifestations of the most relevant human mycoses, as well as on their diagnosis and therapeutic alternatives.
The chapter on Pneumocystis jirovecii and pneumocystis is authored by Francisco Antunes, from the Institute of Environmental Health of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, and Olga Matos and Ana Luísa Tomás from the Medical Parasitology Unit of the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine of the New University of Lisbon.
