Let's take our hat off to Paediatric Palliative Care
On 13 October, hundreds of people around the world put a hat on their heads to remember the World Paediatric Palliative Care Day.
The Paediatrics University Clinic of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, together with the Northern Lisbon Hospital Centre, Santa Maria Hospital and Pulido Valente Hospital, gave the motto to the #hatson4cpc campaign and challenged everyone to wear a hat as a symbolic gesture.
This gesture intends to draw attention to the over 21 million children worldwide who need palliative care and therapy focused on the relief of physical, psychological, social and spiritual pain, as well as improved well- being, because they are terminally ill children with serious or incurable diseases at an advanced stage, in hospital or at home.
Given that only 1% of these children have access to palliative care, it is still necessary to go a long way.
Doctors, nurses, auxiliary staff, patients, administrative staff, educators, and lecturers joined this worldwide movement and agreed to be photographed.
A gesture we should take our hats off to!
