Swearing-in Ceremony for the FMUL Administrative Bodies
On the 23rd of June 2009, in the Main Hall of the Direction of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL), the Chancellor of the University of Lisbon (UL), Professor António Sampaio Nóvoa, swore in the new members of the Scientific Council of the Faculty, the Dean and the members of the Direction.
In turn, the Dean, Professor J. Fernandes e Fernandes, swore in the Vice Dean, Professor J. Alexandre Ribeiro, the Coordinating Secretary, David Xavier and the Executive Director of the Institute of Advanced Training, Professor António Vaz Carneiro.
Professor J. Lobo Antunes, in his quality as President of the Faculty Assembly, congratulated the Dean, as well as the other members sworn in, and stated that today the Faculty is facing a situation of some difficulties but also of Great challenges, which need a committed contribution by all the members of the FMUL.
Following this, the Chancellor of the UL stated that this event was the end of a process of restructuring, which began with the publication of the RJIES. After emphasizing the importance of these new Faculty governing bodies, Professor António Sampaio da Nóvoa reaffirmed his support for the Direction and the Programme for the Mandate of the Dean of the FMUL, recalling the UL’s commitment to the establishing of the Academic Medicine Centre (CAM).
Finally, Professor J. Fernandes e Fernandes spoke, stating that the Direction that had been sworn in formed the bases for the future CAM. He reaffirmed the Faculty’s commitment to the Chancellor and to the UL, stressing that the coming times bring exciting challenges for the two institutions. He also stressed his conviction that the FMUL will be capable of meeting these challenges, to this end counting on the collaboration of all involved, as well as the institutional collaboration of the Chancellery of the UL.
