Dynamed Plus and Access Medicine – Resources Available to Support Teaching, Research, Learning and Clinical Practice.
Presentation Session
On 15 March at 11:30 a.m., two new Resources to Support Teaching, Research, Learning and Clinical Practice were presented at the Aula Magna of the FMUL: Dynamed Plus and Access Medicine. The session was organized by the FMUL, the Library and Information Centre and the Department of Medical Information.
The session began with a brief introduction by Professor António Vaz Carneiro as a Librarian Professor, by the Director of the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine Studies, by Cochrane Portugal, by the Lisbon Medical Academic Centre, and by the Department of Medical Education, highlighting the importance of these resources, which enable physicians to access the most relevant information and consequently carry out clinical acts with greater efficiency.
Due to the high number of scientific papers published per day (about 6000) and the existence of dozens of databases, it becomes impossible to consult all the information in a timely manner. After it has been published and carefully reviewed by experts from each specialty, based on scientific evidence in an organized and processed manner, more objective information is subsequently made available, providing clinicians with a solution not only regarding their clinical practice, but also in the field of pharmacology or surgery, much more rapidly.
This was followed by the presentation of the resource provided by DynaMed Plus of the EBSCO Health, which referred to the support given to clinical decision-making through the contents produced by an international team of health professionals, which summarize the evidence and provide an objective, daily updated analysis. The support of this type of tools to innovations in clinical practice or in the changes of the marketed drugs was also emphasized.
The contents are updated daily with links to the full text. This feature is available for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
This was followed by the presentation of the Access Medicine resource, which presented the various interactive features accessible to the user, which include nearly a hundred e-books, such as Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine, Junqueira’s Basic Histology, Goodman & Gilman’s, as well as multimedia platforms with images, videos and numerous guidelines, differential diagnosis, clinical cases, and tools to support teaching with interactive modules, easily adaptable to e-learning platforms and curricula.
Finally, Professor A. Vaz Carneiro pointed out the need for a number of resources, including access to US and European guidelines, for continuous updating of information, both for patient support and for teaching, learning, research and clinical practice, in order to improve the quality of health care provided.
These new resources can be accessed through the Library-Information Centre webpage of the FMUL.
Finally, it should be noted that the Library-Information Centre Team will always be available to answer any questions.
