Hypertension and Heart Failure - State of the Art 2017
The Symposium "Hypertension and Heart Failure - State of the Art 2017" was held on 6 January at the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon [FMUL].
According to Professor Luiz Menezes Falcão, Assistant Professor of the FMUL and responsible for organizing the Symposium, this year's edition approached the topics from a more practical perspective, and the meeting was particularly aimed at interns and specialists in Cardiology and Internal Medicine.
The opening session was attended by Dr Carlos Neves Martins, Chairman of the Management Board of Santa Maria Hospital/CHLN, Professor Fausto J. Pinto, Director of FMUL, and Dr Francisco George, Director-General of Health.
Throughout the day, the intense programme addressed several subjects, such as "Percutaneous aortic valve implantation - selection and results", by interventional cardiologist Dr Eduardo Infante de Oliveira, "Cardiac rehabilitation - contributions to its development in Portugal", lectured by Dr Miguel Mendes, chairman of the Portuguese Cardiology Society, and "Therapeutics of resistant hypertension - from pharmacology to renal denervation and stimulation of carotid baroreceptors", a topic addressed by Dr José Mesquita Bastos, chairman of the Portuguese Hypertension Society.
Professor Luiz Menezes Falcão was the moderator at some conferences and lectured on the topic: "Treatment of Chronic Heart Failure - progress and hopes in the light of the 2016 Guidelines."
The scientific committee of the Symposium was the responsibility of the following: Professor José Fernandes e Fernandes, Professor Fausto Pinto, Doctor Francisco George, Professor José Braz Nogueira and Professor JL Ducla Soares, as well as Professor Luiz Menezes Falcão himself.
