75 years of the Mathematics Centre of the University of Porto
1942-2017
The Mathematics Centre of the University of Porto [CMUP] celebrates 75 years in February. It will therefore promote the holding of a Commemorative Day, on 17 February 2017 (Friday), which includes an afternoon dedicated to students and teachers of the various levels of education (high school and higher education) and general public, with illustrative and demonstrative lectures on the relevance of Mathematics.
What is mathematics? What is it for?
Major Problems of Basic Mathematics of the 21st Century. The essential role of Mathematics in the progress of the natural, social and technological sciences (Physics, Biology, Engineering, Economics, and Medicine) of the 21st century.
All colleagues are invited to enrol the most motivated students to attend the following lectures:

- Alexandre Rodrigues: "A few simple models for population growth.
