The European Researchers’ Night is an initiative launched in 2005, funded by the European Commission under the Marie Curie Actions, in order to celebrate science and bring together researchers and citizens.
This initiative, which seeks to break down the barriers that separate science from citizens and demystify the distant image that citizens have of scientists, is an opportunity to publicize the work of great quality and innovation conducted by Portuguese researchers, as well as to highlight the importance of effective communication between research centres and civil society.
The European Researchers' Night is reflected in a number of activities taking place throughout the year and that culminate in a night of celebration of science, in several European cities on the last Friday of September.
This year it took place on 30 September. In Lisbon it was held at the National Museum of Natural History and Science in the Principe Real Garden, the belvedere of São Pedro de Alcântara and at the Calouste Gulbenkian Planetarium.
