FMUL and IMM in the Harvard – Portugal Collaboration Agreement
The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL) and the Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM) signed a protocol agreement to be set up on the 21st of May between the Portuguese state (MCTES) and the University of Harvard, through the Harvard Medical School.
This agreement defines a cooperation strategy between Medical Schools and Faculties, Associated Laboratories and Research and Development Institutions acting in theare of biomedical and health sciences on the Portuguese level and the Harvard Medical School, is foreseen to last for six years and involve a sum of up to 42 million euros.
The aim of this partnership is to stimulate clinical research and translation with an impact on the teaching of medicine and specialised medical practice, as well as to modernise and improve the quality of medical education in relation to the international best practices, promoting the divulging of medical contents and the transfer of medical knowledge and biomedical research to medicine students, health professionals and the population in general.
The main lines of the partnership agreement are:
• A research programme to strengthen the capacity to produce new clinical and translation research and clinical knowledge with an impact on specialised medical training and clinical practice with the aim of supporting innovating projects guided towards human pathology.
• Postgraduate programmes in medicine, including “junior” and “senior” study grants for clinical research in order to stimulate the development of the research career for doctors.
• A programme to stimulate the production and publication of medical information for the public at large, and to distribute pedagogical materials to medicine students and professionals in the field
