The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine has expressed his satisfaction with the court's decision with regard to Drs. Mário Andrea and Óscar Dias. Throughout this extended process, the Faculty of Medicine has always maintained its trust in them, as well as all the privileges stemming from their respective functions at the Faculty.
Two conclusions can be drawn from this whole process.
The first one is the need for absolute defence of the independence and autonomy of academic judgement, in keeping with scientific standards and excellence.
Secondly, it is of utmost importance that such trials take place with the greatest possible speed, which can surely be compatible with justice.
Unfortunately, personal, professional, ethical and moral consequences are in such cases extremely harmful, and often irreparable.
