GAPIC [Support Bureau for Scientific and Technological Research and Innovation], which has constantly sought to promote the scientific research of FMUL students, commemorates its 25th anniversary this year. Within the scope of a call for Innovative Projects in the Education Domain of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the latter has approved GAPIC’s project “Pre-graduate Science Experiences in Medicine”.
Following the renowned “Education through Science” Programme, it is the aim of this project to expand and diversify its offer of funded research projects for pre-graduate FMUL students (the Integrated Master’s Degree in Medicine /CMIM).
The subsidy, to the value of €59.200,00, is specifically designed to support:
I) 10 Gulbenkian-FMUL Grants, which will contribute to increasing the amount of financed research projects;
II) 3 Gulbenkian-FMUL Mobility Grants, for projects to be accomplished in European research centres of excellence;
III) 6 Gulbenkian-FMUL Grants for Pedagogical and Scientific Development, a new modality with pedagogical and scientific components. It is the aim of the pedagogical component (creation of a video game/serious game) to promote skills in critical reasoning and information integration of both a biological and clinical nature and on different levels. Our objective is to convey and instil in students a more coherent vision of a clinical case so as to equip them for when they begin their clinical practice; the scientific component will be introduced upon completion of the pedagogical component, and will be in keeping with the other project types.
The 2015 grant application period will open at the end of the year.
