Edgar Gomes was one of four researchers in Portugal honoured by the European Research Council
Edgar Gomes is part of a group of 312 researchers who, over the next five years, will receive funding to continue their research project under the Consolidator Grants of the European Research Council (ERC).
With this action, the ERC aims to encourage high quality research in Europe by giving funding to researchers at an early stage of their career.
In total, the ERC granted funding in excess of € 500 million to scientists of 33 nationalities and institutions from 21 European countries. The selection was made from over 3000 applications by 25 panels consisting of renowned researchers from around the world.
The project of Edgar Gomes, a researcher at the Institute of Molecular Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, primarily aims to study the mechanisms that control the positioning of the nucleus in muscle cells and the importance of changes in that positioning in various muscle diseases.
