Fifth edition of the AIMS Meeting to be held at FMUL

The fifth edition of the Annual International Medical Students Meeting (AIMS Meeting), organized by students of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon aims to bring together Portuguese and foreign students to learn about and discuss the future of Medicine in the fields of Oncology, Ophthalmology and Innovation.
Rowan Gillies, the youngest ever president of Doctors Without Borders, and Tiago Rodrigues, a researcher at Cambridge who devised a technique for early detection of cancer, will be two of the guests. The international panel of speakers also includes John Bell (Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Canada), Maria Themeli (Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, USA), Michael Hausser (University College London, UK), Sebastian Jessberger (University of Zurich, Switzerland), Jonathan Butcher (Cornell University, USA), and Arjan Buis (University of Strathclyde, UK) – all researchers of excellence in their respective fields, ranging from neuroscience to innovation, who are at the forefront of medicine and promise to be an example and inspiration for participating students.
At the AIMS Meeting, students also take the stage, as the conference gives them the opportunity to present their research projects. The best will be awarded the Gulbenkian scholarship, worth € 2000, and the Servier scholarships, worth € 500€ each. The majority of papers will be presented by foreign students, who will come to Lisbon to showcase their projects.
In addition to the talks, the conference will include a science speed dating activity with doctors and researchers, competitions to test the knowledge of participants, and practical workshops for skills training (surgery and trauma techniques are the most popular).
