The World Voice Day was celebrated on 16 April with a voice screening.
The objective was to promote the health of the vocal tract and prevent larynx diseases.
World Voice Day was first celebrated in 2003 at the suggestion of Professor Mário Andrea, professor of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, at the first meeting of the European Society of Laryngology, which he chaired.
The programme was organized by the ENT, Voice and Communication Disorders of Santa Maria Hospital/Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon and this year included a week of screening (15-19 April), which consisted of a survey, ENT observation, Speech Therapist and a Psychologist. At the end, a report with a description of any changes and therapeutical guidance was offered.
The performance to commemorate the 11th World Voice Day was held at the Aula Magna on 16 April with the support of the Rector’s Office and Montepio Bank. The Montepio Voice 2013 award was given to soprano Elisabete Matos to celebrate her twenty-five year career.
