Studying Medicine at FMUL – Candidate’s Day | 2013
Candidate’s Day took place on 11 April and this year it was part of the Open Day of the University of Lisbon (UL).
One hundred and sixteen young people visited us, with an average age of 17 years and coming mainly from the districts of Lisbon and Santarém (88.2%), with the aim of obtaining information on which to inform their choice when applying to higher education (73.7%). The majority are inclined to choosing FMUL mostly due to the quality of education it offers (69.6%). (link to data)
In order to meet their expectations, in the morning the candidates attended presentations that addressed issues such as (i) the syllabus of the Integrated Master Degree in Medicine of FMUL, (ii) Research conducted at FMUL, (iii) the clinical practice carried out by FMUL students in Africa, this year with the special participation of Professor Francisco Antunes, (iv) sharing experiences in terms of research and as part of the Erasmus mobility programme. As in previous years, there were guided tours to some of FMUL’s Institutes and Services that had the strong support of students from the Student Association of FMUL and some research units of the Institute of Molecular Medicine.
In the afternoon the candidates joined the other participants in the Open Day of the UL, which was held at the Aula Magna of the rector’s office, where they could watch short dance, music and sports performances given by students attending faculties that are part of the UL. Back at FMUL, the Student Association explained the association’s activities to them. At the closing session the candidates were asked to fill an anonymous satisfaction questionnaire.

Generally speaking, candidates were satisfied with all the initiatives held during Candidate’s Day.
At the end of the day we were left with the feeling that participants enjoyed the experience and left feeling very satisfied, which is extremely gratifying for the whole team who committed hard to ensuring that everything run as smoothly as possible.
Next year we will be back and wait for you!
