“Largest energy efficiency project in academia" launched at the University of Lisbon
"Sustainable Campus – Green University"
The first stage of the photovoltaic park of the University of Lisbon (UL) was inaugurated on 14 March. By October of the current year, about 10 000 panels are expected to be installed and start producing electricity from the sun, which is equivalent to the consumption of 12,600 households.
The UL and Galp Energia launched the project "Sustainable Campus – Green University", the "largest energy efficiency in academia in Portugal" which will allow the institution to attain international benchmarks.
The project will be guaranteed by four photovoltaic plants consisting of over 2,600 solar panels generating electricity installed in four different points at the university. The energy produced – more than one million kilowatts per year (kWh/year) will be fed into the electrical grid of the city.
