Science and Health Research
In this section we continue to divulge online resources, which may be personal web pages, blogs, institutional portals, etc. We shall give preference to those of simple and intuitive use, preferably free of charge. A large part will be dedicated to the medical sciences. In the present edition, we offer some more suggestions, which may also be added to the favorite pages link.
Labcom Books
Page information: «Livros Labcom is a publishing project that provides all the PDF books published by LabCom.» These are structured PDF files, which makes it easier to search for content, and do not take time to load. They are mainly dedicated to Social Sciences and Humanities.
Medline Plus
A reference page for diverse medical information. «Produced by the National Library of Medicine, it brings you information about diseases, conditions, and wellness issues … You can use MedlinePlus to learn about the latest treatments, look up information on a drug or supplement, find out the meanings of words, or view medical videos or illustrations. You can also get links to the latest medical research on your topic or find out about clinical trials on a disease or condition.»
MedlinePlus includes a Medical Dictionary, with a presentation dedicated to the understanding of medical terms and their construction. These have, in essence, Greek and Latin roots, that are important to know.
New England Journal of Medicine – 200th Anniversary
On this page, which marks the 200th anniversary of the NEJM (nice mark for a medical journal!), there is an interactive timeline of the History of Medicine with great interest.
Google Art Project
Mentioning the Google Art Project may appear out of place in this section, but, given its interest, we wanted to include it. Working as a Google Earth for art museums and galleries all over the world, the GAP allows you to admire a Vermeer (pictured above) or Leonardo Da Vinci on the screen of your PC, as you pay a "virtual visit" to the museum where the original work of art can be found. In some cases, the resolution of images is very high, and you can closely observe details with great historic, artistic and technical interest, including those regarding the execution of these art works.
