The year 2012 will be marked by the passing of José Francisco David Ferreira, Distinguished Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon and a towering figure of Medicine and Science in our country.
The testimonies of those who worked and lived with him, colleagues, students, disciples and friends, enhance a deep sense of Humanity. We have collected some of these testimonies so that we can share them with you. It is quite clear that the example of Professor David Ferreira will last among us.
We live in changing times in the University of Lisbon. There is an ongoing discussion, throughout the academic community, of the proposed merger of the two Lisbon Universities “Clássica” and Técnica. A working document (PT) has been created that set the basis for discussion in several meetings in various faculties of UL and UTL. We believe that the drive and personal commitment of both rectors has been accompanied by a moderate optimism and expectation from the community. We are all called to take part in this important discussion.
Among other reasons for interest in this issue, we would also like to highlight two events that mark our present: the Opening of the Calouste Gulbenkian Chair, whose first three years will be directed to Palliative Care, and the Faculty of Medicine’s Assembly taking office.
In section News Report / Profile, we get to know better the University Clinic of Infectious Diseases, in its various aspects, including education, research, cooperation, actions, etc.
