Some students of the Master Degree in Emerging Infections Diseases shared their history with us and explained how their experience in the field of Infectious Diseases influenced their future careers.

"Early in my academic path, I realized I was interested in micro-organisms in the context of infection, as a result of studying biology for one year at the Faculty of Sciences of Lisbon. In 2004, I decided to apply, as my only option, to the Bachelor Degree in Microbiology of the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon, which was being offered for the first time. During the degree, I had contact with lecturers and researchers of excellence, whose experience and expertise contributed enormously to my commitment to the world of research.(...)"

"The idea to have a blog related to the master degree, and naturally to the topic it addresses – emerging infectious diseases – grew during the degree. However, it was just when the freedom of mind that only the presentation of the thesis confers descended upon me that I decided to put into practice what until then had been loose talks with colleagues and Prof. Emília Valadas. To tell the truth, the final push to create the blog came after the master degree dinner and a lively conversation with a few students and former students of the degree (...)"
