A new public hospital will open in Loures in January 2012 under a Public Private Partnership managed by Grupo Espírito Santo Saúde (Espírito Santo Group – Health). In the context of the management agreement entered into with the Portuguese State, Beatriz Ângelo Hospital will be responsible for providing health care to the population living in the municipalities of Loures, Odivelas, Mafra, and Sobral de Monte Agraço, and, within the national health system, it will work closely with Santa Maria Hospital.

In May 2011, a protocol was signed between the Loures Hospital Management Company and the Lisbon Academic Medical Centre, which clearly aims to strengthen the partnership and, even more ambitiously, lay the foundations for the promotion of joint programmes in the field of under and postgraduate training, the provision of differentiated health care and the development of research projects.
With this protocol, the Beatriz Ângelo Hospital, through its medical staff and the strong support of the Board, is committed to contributing to the medical community and to the country by playing an active role in the training of health professionals. In this context, the following must be highlighted: the undergraduate medical teaching of clinical subjects in collaboration with the University Clinics of the Lisbon Academic Medical Centre; the creation of postgraduate programmes; the participation in advanced education programmes, including master projects, in the form of supervisors or panel members, and through involvement in the development of translational research projects.
