Editorial Note
FMUL - 2012 and the Future
This first 2012 edition of the Newsletter is totally devoted to addressing the challenges of the present and of the future, in the short, medium and long term.
With regard to FMUL internal matters, we emphasise from the outset two texts expressing the opinions of Professors J. Fernandes e Fernandes, “2012: Difficulties and Opportunity” and of J. Lobo Antunes, “The project for the merger between the Classical University and the Technical University of Lisbon”, which address precisely some of the biggest challenges currently faced by our common home and which will impact on the future of Portuguese society.
The Board of AEFMUL also writes an article where it reflects on the role of students in a troubled present and future, without neglecting the extremely rich past in terms of events on the history of FMUL and which are educational to all of us.
This edition includes a text on the New Building of FMUL, highlighting a situation we all know something about, even if we lack the time for reflecting about it properly: our house is in constant growth and expansion in many ways. We should be familiar with them so that we can be involved in the process.
The news about the Library-IDC, about one year of social responsibility, the electronic register of attendance, the adhesion of the University of Lisbon to the National Network for Brain Functional Imaging, or the renewal of the bodies of FMUL showcase the modernisation path that has been gradually undertaken.
The Editorial Team wishes all colleagues and readers an Excellent 2012.
