More And Better
Welcome to FMUL 2011/2
With the start of the academic year, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL) welcomed its new year 1 students with the initiative “Reception and Registration of year 1 Students – 1st time”. It took place between 20 and 23 September and consisted in guiding students through the enrolment process, giving them the most relevant information on the functioning of the institution. This initiative was organized by the coordinating team, which includes the Directorate of the Department of Administrative Management, the Academic Area, the Facilities, and Information Technology Equipment Unit, and the Office for Communication and Image. As they arrived at FMUL, students were received by our mascot “Fmulito”, by employees and students who took them to the registration room in the Egas Moniz Building, where a team helped them carry out the online registration. They were handed the fresher’s kit – a forder with information material and a CF with a multimedia guide containing information about FMUL.
After enrolment, students were invited to visit an area with several exhibition stands: the Students’ Association of the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon (AEFML), where they obtained their membership card and were welcomed by colleagues from other years who gave them useful academic information; Espírito Santo Bank (BES), where they got their Students’ Association membership cards, Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD), where they requested their student of the University of Lisbon (UL) card; the Library, where they received information about it and were able to sort out their access card; the Lockers, where they could pre-enrol to have access to one; the Information Kiosk of FMUL, where they got general information about FMUL and handed in the questionnaire about the motivations and expectations of new students they were given at the registration reception; the Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM) enabled them to have contact with a internationally renowned research unit. The Group of Museums of the University of Lisbon and the Association of Friends of Santa Maria Hospital were also present.
This initiative, which had the involvement of 39 non-teaching employees of FMUL, aimed to say to new coming students: Welcome to FMUL!
Like in previous years, in the first week of classes students were invited to fill in a questionnaire to evaluate the “Welcoming Week – Registration year 1/1st time”. Results can be found here.
