The Northern Lisbon Hospital Centre and the Building of the Academic
“The Northern Lisbon Hospital Centre and the Building of the Academic Medical Centre of Lisbon at challenging times”
The Session entitled “The Northern Lisbon Hospital Centre and the Building of the Academic Medical Centre of Lisbon at challenging times” organized by the Board of the Northern Lisbon Hospital Centre was held on 24 October and was attended by the Health Minister, Dr. Paulo Macedo, the Secretary of State for Health, Dr. Fernando Real da Costa, the President of the Board of CHLN, Dr. João Correia da Cunha, the Director of FMUL, Prof. J. Fernandes e Fernandes and the Director of IMM, Prof. J. Lobo Antunes.
In the challenging period the country is currently experiencing, the role of Hospitals, Faculties of Medicine and Research Units is an important one in the national scene. It is a period when it becomes necessary to rethink the provision of health care, the training of future doctors and to invest in biomedical research. Thus, according to the words of the guests sitting at the table, the Academic Medical Centre of Lisbon is a model in fostering modern medicine.
After several speeches, the session was marked by the support of the Minister to this Centre of Excellence, which strengthens the idea that he is himself aware of the sacrifices that are being made on an individual and global basis across the country in the field of health and provision of care.
