Professor Pulido Valente Prize Ceremony – Teaching Award 2010
The Professor Francisco Pulido Valente Prize–Teaching Award 2011 is an initiative of the Professor Francisco Pulido Valente Foundation and of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL) that dates back to 1992. This award aims to honour, every year, the student of the Integrated Master degree in Medicine who is top in his/her class in the subject Module V.II – Internal Medicine, which corresponds to the former subject Medicine II, deemed to be the one that better matches the subject titled Medical Practice chaired by Professor Pulido Valente, the Patron of this Award.
The Prize aims to celebrate the name of his patron, the great reformer of medicine in Portugal and also a Professor in Medical Practice at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon between 1920 and 1947, the year when he was compulsorily retired for political reasons.
The Award, currently worth 2,500 Euros, was presented at a public session specially organized for the purpose at Aula Magna of FMUL, on 5 May 2011. The table of honour had the presence of Professor Rui Victorino, President of the Scientific Council of FMUL, Professor João Pedro Pulido Valente Monjardino, President of the Pulido Valente Foundation, Professor Braz Nogueira, representing the Medicine I University Clinic, Professor Fernanda Rollo, head of the History Department of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of Universidade Nova de Lisboa (New University of Lisbon) and who gave a conference titled “Miguel Bombarda, medical doctor and a revolutionary”.
This was followed by the handing of the Professor Francisco Pulido Valente Prize–Teaching Award 2011 by Professor João Pedro Pulido Valente Monjardino, President of the Foundation, to student Gustavo Lima Sousa da Silva, who got the top mark in the subject Module V.II – Internal Medicine strand in the academic year 2009/2010 – 19 marks.
The ceremony was attended by distinguished members of our Faculty, as well as by representatives of our partner institutions.
