With the motto “This is your life! Find your own way”, FUTURÁLIA offered visitors numerous opportunities and challenges to delineate their own future path, which unquestionably includes achieving an academic qualification. With about 63 838 visitors in 2010, this event has become a reference in the field of Education, Training and Educational Guidance.
The University of Lisbon presented a united force through its “Stand UL” representing, in a conceptual and stylized form, the prestigious and well-known Rector’s Building. This was the setting which brought together all the university bodies that chose to be represented: the Faculties of Sciences, Humanities, Medicine, and Psychology, and the Social Sciences, and Geography and Territorial Planning Institutes.
Among the extensive variety of options (educate, train, learn, guide, and qualify), the areas that best justified UL’s presence at this event were to promote educational and training opportunities and offer guidance to visitors – young people currently in years 9-12 of schooling, university students, recent graduates and young professionals, parents, and education professionals.
Placed at the entrance of Pavilion 1 of the Lisbon International Fair (FIL), the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL) was a first-time participant at this event. This presence attested the importance of distinct contexts and approaches which, according to the specific needs of visitors, demonstrate there is increased demand for training in the field of the Health Sciences.
More than a duty, it is an obligation to be present when individuals need to make decisions, guide them and elucidate their queries. A good decision made at the right time in the lives of young people, together with sound counselling by those in a position to do provide it, is often the key factor for a successful existence.
FMUL is committed to do its best to contribute to the shaping of these paths, supply the best tools and make available top educational training in the field of health, training students to become praiseworthy and able to embrace all challenges.
In order to identify its staff and better serve potential candidates, FMUL, together with its Students’ Association (AEFML), “dressed up” for the occasion and in accordance with the spirit of the event.
About to enter higher education, final year High School students were the majority at this event. There was ample distribution of flyers containing important information: Master Degree in Medicine, Access Procedures, Course Syllabus, Professional Careers, etc., in addition to the courses and objectives of the Advanced Training Institute (ATI) – Doctorates and Master Degrees.
As part of the promotion of the University of Lisbon, Futurália and the UL Stand received the visit of the Vice-Rector, Professor Maria Amélia Martins Loução (on 17 March), and of the Rector, Professor António Sampaio da Nóvoa (on 18 March).
This 4-day event was packed with questions, answers, chatting and enjoyment, and strengthened our commitment to return next year.
