Editorial Note
This Spring edition will hopefully bring about, despite the troubled times that our country is going through, which affect us all, some good news that we would like to share with you.
The 20th edition of our Newsletter is the work of a renewed editorial team. The new members bring their own ideas, experience and dynamism, as well as their particular views and enthusiasm. This edition reveals that personal touch.
To all colleagues who, for a number of reasons, have left us to embrace new challenges, we do not say goodbye. They will continue to contribute. This newsletter is also theirs, as is to the whole FMUL. For this to be a sentiment shared by all is the task that we take as our principal. For this same reason, it is important and necessary that we have your participation and involvement.
Several articles and news could be highlighted in this issue. Here are only a few suggestions. In the Centenary Year of the University Refoundation, we talk about the event was one of its highlights: the Ceremony of the Centenary Year of the University of Lisbon (UL), which took place on March 21, at the Aula Magna. In the words of Rector Magnificus António Sampaio de Nóvoa, "The Ceremony of the Centenary Year of the University of Lisbon has its center in its students, and especially what they have given and have to give to society." Given its importance, we will return to these celebrations in future issues.
In pursuing our goal of knowing more about our common home, we published two interviews, with Professor Luis Costa, Director of Oncology, Hospital de Santa Maria, Director of Applied Clinical Research Unit at IMM (UIAOC) and also Professor in FMUL, and with Professor Alexandre Ribeiro, Vice-dean of the UL, FMUL Deputy and Director of the Institute of Pharmacology and Neurosciences. In the former you may find out, for example, what the Oncology Series are, while the second takes account of the history and activities of the Institute of Pharmacology and Neurosciences - Since we have chosen to highlight Pharmacology and Neurosciences in this edition, this is an extensive interview with Professor Alexandre Ribeiro, and there are articles on the field in ‘Science Space’.
Also in this issue, the Administrative Branches Coordenation Unit (Coordenação dos Polos Administrativos) present their project to the Newsletter and our readers.
We also highlighted the growing importance of social networks in today's society. Their use as a means of institutional communication is increasing.
Last but not least, we highlight another article by Professor João Frada, this time on Biorhythms and school failure. The author talks about a public health problem of great importance that has not been given sufficient attention by the authorities, and whose consequences involve us and blame everyone.
