Inaugural Session of the Sixth Year Clinical Training Period 2008/2009

E-mail: ggc@fm.ul.ptOn the 10th of October last, at 10 am, the Inaugural Session of the Sixth Year Clinical Training Period in the Integrated Masters Course in Medicine was held in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL).This year the FMUL had the presence of the Representative of the Order of Doctors, Dr. Pedro Nunes, who informed all the students and those present about the Order’s position. On the table at the session were also the President of the Scientific Council, Professor H. Bicha Castelo, the Clinical Director of the North Lisbon Hospital Centre, Dr. Correia Cunha, the Coordinator of the Sixth Year Clinical Training Period, Professor Rui Victorino, Professor Paulo Costa, Responsible for the Clinical Training Period in Surgery, the Division Head of the Academic Area, Ana Paula Pereira and the recent graduate Dr. Pedro Correia Azevedo.The aim of this session was to welcome the new final year students, and to analyse, reflect and present the Clinical Training Period programme.With the implementation of the Integrated Masters Course up to the Sixth Year there was the introduction of the Final Work, which aims at providing an experience of producing and presenting a scientific work, such as a scientific article or review article. Within this context, after the closing of the session there was the First Seminar – Methodology of the Final Work in the Integrated Masters in Medicine, moderated by Professor Rui Victorino. This event was organized by the Faculty of Medicine Students’ Association (AEFMUL) and had as its aim discussion and clarification of doubts raised by the sixth year students and their respective tutors.
After the opening, Professor José Ferro made a short presentation on methodology in Medical Research. The subject presented acted as the basis for the debate which followed.
Besides the above-mentioned professors, also present on the table were those responsible for the clinical areas of the Sixth Year and a representative of the AEFMUL.
A second event is planned for the Fifth Year students, organized by the AEFMUL.
After the closing of the seminar, held by Professor Rui Victorino, the students received the documentation referring to the first training period to be held, as well as the support documentation for the Sixth Year.
