Debate about Oncology at the Second International Symposium of the Harvard Medical School Program – Portugal

The Harvard Medical School Program – Portugal organized the second Internal Symposium on 3 and 4 December, Oncology being the core topic. The Symposium took place at the Serralves Foundation in Oporto, and the Opening Session was attended by Manuel Heitor, Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education.
During two days it was possible to attend talks given by some of the most renowned world researchers, such as George D. Demetri and Stephen Blacklow, from the Harvard Medical School and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and Andrea I. McClatchey, from the Harvard Medical School and MGH Cancer Center.
Fátima Carneiro, from IPATIMUP - Instituto de Patologia e Imunologia Molecular da Universidade do Porto (Institute of Pathology and Molecular Immunology of the University of Oporto) and Lino Ferreira, from the Centro de Neurociências e Biologia Celular da Universidade de Coimbra (Neuroscience and Cell Biology Centre of the University of Coimbra) and BIOCANT, Centro de Inovação em Biotecnologia (Centre for Innovation in Biotechnology) also participated in the Symposium.
This Symposium was targeted at research professionals, health professionals and students, and met one of the key objectives of the Harvard Medical School – Portugal Program, by linking research with clinical application.
The Harvard Medical School – Portugal Program used the occasion to divulge some of the tools and functionalities it has been producing with regard to information, namely videos and quizzes which aim to give the population at large increased and engaging access to quality medical information.
