Gulbenkian “Research on the Frontier of Life Sciences” Prize
Gulbenkian “Research on the Frontier of Life Sciences” Prize distinguishes research by the Institute of Molecular Medicine on Dengue
The project by the researcher Ivo Martins, from the Biomembrane Unit of the Institute of Molecular Medicine, has received the “Research on the Frontier of Life Sciences” prize from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
The awards ceremony took place in the Main Auditorium of the Egas Moniz Building, where Ivo Martins presented his project “The interplay between lipid droplets, RNA and the capsid protein during dengue virus assembly and encapsidation.” The aim of the study is to understand how one of the phases of the life cycle of the Dengue virus functions, namely that of understanding the molecular mechanisms that lead to the formation of the viral capsid, which involves and protects the viral genetic material.
The Research on the Frontier of Life Sciences Programme distinguishes projects headed by Portuguese or foreign PhD researchers resident in Portugal, whose age is not over 30 years old on the 31st of December 2009.
