Professor Francisco Pulido Valente Teaching Prize 2010
The Professor Francisco Pulido Valente Teaching Prize 2010 is an initiative of the responsibility of the Professor Francisco Pulido Valente Foundation and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL), and dates back to 1992. This award aims at annually distinguishing the student in the Integrated Masters Course in Medicine with the best results in the current curricular unit Module V.II – Internal Medicine, equivalent to the former subject of Medicine II, which it was considered most closely corresponded to the subject of Clinical Medicine for which Professor Francisco Pulido Valente, the patron of the prize was the Chair.
The prize intends to celebrate the name of its patron, a great renewer of Portuguese medicine and he himself Chair in Clinical Medicine at the Lisbon Faculty of Medicine from 1920 to 1947, the year when he was forced to retire for political reasons.
The Prize, which currently is €2,500 (two thousand five-hundred euros) was awarded in a public session specially organised for the effect in the FMUL Aula Magna on the 27th of May, in the presence at the ceremony of Professor Fernades e Fernandes, Director of the FMUL, Professor João Pedro Pulido Valente Monjardino, President of the Pulido Valente Foundation, Professor Braz Nogueira, representative of the Medicine I University Clinic, Professor Teresa Godinho, Director of the Service of Cardiothoraxic Surgery from Hospital Pulido Valente, and Professor Paulo Costa, Director of the University Clinic of Surgery I FMUL.
The subject of the ceremony was an Homage to Professor Celestino da Costa.
This was followed by the awarding of the Professor Francisco Pulido Valente Teaching Prize 2010 by Professor João Pedro Pulido Valente Monjardino, President of the Foundation, to the student Daniela Marisa Carvalho Silva, who obtained the best average mark in the curricular unit Module V.II – Internal Medicine in the 2007/2008 academic year, with 19 on 20.
The ceremony was attended by illustrious members of our faculty as well as from the other institutions that collaborate with us.
