On the 9th of February Professor António Rendas was elected President of the CRUP by the sixteen chancellors of the Portuguese Universities, following Professor Fernando Seabra, who occupied the position for three years.

Professor António Rendas states that he has two important challenges for his mandate: the Contract of Trust signed with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education, which aims at qualifying one hundred thousand Portuguese citizens over the next four years, and the improving of the international image of the Portuguese Universities.

He has a degree in Medicine and a PhD in Experimental Pathology. In 2007 he was elected Chancellor of the New University of Lisbon, where he had previously been Director of the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Director of the Faculty of Medical Sciences. (fonte: JN)
