The new Cascais Hospital was inaugurated
The new Cascais Hospital was inaugurated on the 23rd of February 2010 and is the first national Health Service Hospital to be granted a concession and be built in a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), with a new management model. The HPP Health group thus responded to the Programme for Renovation and Modernisation of the Hospital Network in the Portuguese National Health Service (SNS), launched in 2002 by the Ministry of Health. The building of the hospital started in February 2008 and was attributed to the HPP – Hospitais Privados de Portugal/Teixeira Duarte consortium, representing an investment of 387 million Euros.
The services of the new hospital building will cover a population of about 300 thousand people from the boroughs of Cascais and Sintra, with the health service provided for the population from Sintra being exclusively maternity and child care for the following civil parishes: Algueirão-Mem Martins; Pêro Pinheiro; Colares; S. João das Lampas; Santa Maria; S. Martinho; S. Pedro de Penaferrim and Terrugem.
The population may thus benefit from new complementary methods of diagnosis and therapy, such as mammography, CAT scans, echography and provisional pacemaker implants, among others. In the area of physical medicine and rehabilitation there is occupational therapy and voice and speech therapy. Examinations in neurology, ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology are other services included.
